A Woman of Inspiration
for Pepperidge Farm's efforts against breast cancer is our founder, Margaret Rudkin. She was a determined entrepreneur who built Pepperidge Farm from its roots in her Connecticut home into the leading company it is today. In her journey through life, Margaret was touched by breast cancer, and it is in her honor that Pepperidge Farm is proud to encourage and inspire women to support Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.
When Margaret discovered that her youngest son, who suffered from severe allergies and asthma, was unable to eat most commercially processed foods, she put him on a diet of fruits, vegetables and minimally processed foods. She began to bake him all-natural stone ground whole wheat bread from scratch. To everyone's surprise, she was able to bake nutritious bread that was delicious, too. Soon, word spread and she and her family began selling her bread to grocery stores in Connecticut and New York.
As the company grew, Margaret remained committed to creating healthful, delicious, nutritious food—for her family and for everyone who purchased Pepperidge Farm® products.
It's a commitment that the bakers at Pepperidge Farm are still passionate about today.
